Public Meeting Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. Via Teleconference Hosted in Saskatoon City Hall Council Chamber
The Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners has called a special meeting to receive an update from the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) on a call for service regarding suspicious behaviour that occurred on July 4, 2020 in Saskatoon. A video posted on social media shows a portion of the interaction that occurred, including use of force.
It is our understanding that the SPS is treating this as a critical and serious incident and the Saskatchewan Public Complaints Commission will be responsible for conducting an independent investigation.
However, in its strategic role to provide oversight to the Saskatoon Police Service, the Board of Police Commissioners is interested in learning more about the incident that occurred, so that they can better understand the situation, the environment in which it took place, and the steps the Service will take moving forward to review use of force and overall response while ensuring public safety.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. and will be live streamed from City Council Chamber at Saskatoon City Hall.
Time for media interviews with the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners spokespersons Chair Darlene Brander or Vice-Chair Carolanne Inglis-McQuay will be made available immediately following the public portion of the meeting, as usual. Please contact the Executive Director to coordinate an interview.
NOTE: The meeting will be broadcast live, and can be viewed while the meeting is taking place. Please note the video may take a moment or two to start playing on your computer and you will only see a live stream if a public meeting is in session. The meeting video will also be posted on the City’s website as soon as possible after the meeting is concluded. http://download.isiglobal.ca/saskatoon/live.html
