Saskatoon Hosts 33rd Annual Police Board Conference
SASKATOON – The Saskatoon Police Commission is pleased to be hosting the 33rd annual Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG) conference at the Delta Bessborough Hotel September 8 to 11, 2022. The theme of the conference is Community Partnerships and Engagement. This hybrid conference will welcome more than 200 police board & commission members, virtually and in person, from across Canada to discuss their role in building strong, safe communities and accountable police services.
The conference begins on September 8 with the First Nations Police Governance Council (FNPGC) Conference which will discuss engagement on the co-development of a legislative framework for First Nations policing as an essential service. Other sessions include interjurisdictional issues, and a round table on mental health of police personnel and band bylaws. Conference delegates include self-administered First Nations Police Governance Authorities, Commissions and Community Consultative Committees.
On September 9 the CAPG Conference will begin with opening ceremonies, followed by a Keynote address, presentations on governance, evidence-based policing, maintaining public trust during protests, and a panel discussion on our theme, "Community Partnerships & Engagement." This will be followed by a series of roundtable conversations which will take place at Wanuskewin Heritage Centre (WHC).
The second day of the conference will include an interactive session on building robust models of police governance, followed by a panel discussion on models of community partnerships, lead by members of the Saskatoon Police Service. Workshops on topics including Saskatoon’s Police and Crisis Team, the Mental Health & Suicide Intervention Call Transfer Protocol, the Saskatoon Community Mobilization Unit and more will conclude the day.
The final day includes a session on addressing the alignment gap in police organizations through collaborative, bottom-up strategic planning, followed by our annual panel discussion with the Presidents of CAPG, the Canadian Association of Chiefs (CACP) of Police and the Canadian Police Association (CPA).
