Interim Chief Appointed Following Chief Troy Cooper’s Retirement

Following the retirement of Police Chief Troy Cooper from the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS), beginning January 1, 2024, Acting Deputy Chief Dave Haye will serve as Interim Chief until the Board’s recruitment for a new Chief of Police has concluded.

Acting Deputy Chief Dave Haye has been a member of the SPS for 39 years. During that time, he has taken on many roles in all areas of the Service including the Integrated Intelligence Unit, the Integrated Drug Unit, Watch Commander, Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and Professional Standards. He was promoted to the rank of Superintendent in 2016 and oversaw both the Criminal Investigations Division and Operational Support. He was appointed Acting Deputy Chief in September 2023. A/D/C Haye also served two terms as President of the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers and was involved with the Saskatoon City Police Association from 1996-2005, serving two terms as Vice President. He was appointed a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Saskatoon Police Service Pension Plan from 2012-2015. A/D/C Haye has been very involved in the training and education of his fellow police officers throughout his career and has extensive experience working in integration with municipal police services and the RCMP.

The Board has begun discussions regarding the process that will be used to recruit Saskatoon’s 13th Police Chief. An update on progress made to date will be provided at the December 21st Public Board Meeting
