Shirley Greyeyes to Lead Police Board in 2024 & New Vice Chair and Police Board Member for 2024

At the January 25th public meeting of the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners, the Board appointed Commissioner Shirley Greyeyes as Board Chair and Commissioner Brent Penner as Vice Chair for a one-year term. Both were appointed to the Board in January 2021.

New board member John Lagimodiere was recently appointed to serve a two-year term. One vacant board position remains; the Board hopes to make an announcement regarding this soon. The Saskatoon City Council Commission members did not change.

The 2024 Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners includes:

A First Nations woman from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Chair/Commissioner Greyeyes brings a vast knowledge of the Indigenous community to the Board. Currently a Director at the Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation, over the years her employment has given her the opportunity to work with the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) on many levels. Shevolunteered with the SPS for over 15 years and was a graduate of the first SPS Community Police Academy. Commissioner Greyeyes is passionate about creating a better understanding between the police and the Indigenous community and bringing forward issues from the Indigenous community to ensure they are incorporated into the overall oversight of the SPS. As

Chair, she plans to continue this advocacy work.

Commissioner Penner is Executive Director of the Downtown Saskatoon Business Improvement District. Prior to that role, he spent 19 years as a member of the SPS, leaving as a Staff Sergeant in 2012. During his policing career, Penner worked in several areas including Patrol, Community Services (Schools, Cultural Resource and Crime Stoppers), Human Resources, Professional Standards, and served eight years as a board member of the Saskatoon Police Association. Commissioner Penner’s top priorities are to ensure the goals identified in the SPS Strategic Plan are implemented, to continually listen to the diverse viewpoints of residents, and to ensure the Commission is accountable to the residents ofSaskatoon. He is committed to helping create integrated approaches and efficiencies in policing that address safety in Saskatoon.

New Commissioner John Lagimodiere is a Métis Nation-Saskatchewan citizen born and raised

in Saskatoon and is owner of ACS Aboriginal Consulting Services which facilitates Indigenous awareness seminars and develops strategy. He was also Publisher/Editor of Eagle Feather News for 25 years. Commissioner Lagimodiere has volunteered as a sports coach and served on numerous boards including the Saskatoon-Leadership Committee on ending homelessness, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Indigenous Affairs Policy Committee, and the Batoche Historic Site Shared Management Board to name a few. He has delivered Indigenous awareness seminars to the SPS, facilitated planning with the Elders Advisory Committee, and participated in both the SPS Peacekeepers Program and Community Police Academy.
