Cameron McBride Officially Sworn in as Chief of Police for the Saskatoon Police Service
Today members of the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners, along with distinguished dignitaries, invited guests, members of the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS), and an official Honour Guard, gathered at SPS Headquarters to officially swear in Cameron McBride as Chief of Police.
Cameron McBride assumed the role of Chief of Police on May 16, 2024. Before they can commence their official duties, a Chief of Police must take an Oath of Allegiance and Office, swearing to fulfill their role diligently, faithfully, and to the best of their ability.
Board of Police Commissioners Chair Shirley Greyeyes invited Cameron McBride to read the Oath, which was administered by Court of King’s Bench Justice Heather D. MacMillan-Brown.
“Today was an opportunity to celebrate with Chief McBride, his family, and SPS members as he formally accepted the duties of this very important role,” said Chair Greyeyes. “The Board is looking forward to working with Chief McBride as we all work together to achieve our mission of creating a culture of community safety in Saskatoon.”
"This was a very important day for the Saskatoon Police Service and for our community,” says Mayor Charlie Clark. “Chief McBride is a tremendous relationship builder and leader, ready to take on the challenge of being Police Chief for our city. He is the right person to help guide the SPS and our city forward. I am grateful he has stepped up to take on this role.”
Joining Board members and the mayor were dignitaries including the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Russ Mirasty, Minister of Corrections and Policing the Hon. Paul Merriman, Kathie Pruden Nansel of Métis Nation Saskatchewan, and representatives of the Saskatoon Police Officers Executive Association and Police Association. Blessings were provided by Pastor Dallas Beutler standing in for SPS Chaplain John Morris, and Elder Judy Pelly.
About 200 members of the SPS also attended the ceremony, which was livestreamed on the SPS Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
